Putin: The “Berlin patient” has the support of US intelligence, but that does not mean that we are interested in poisoning him

Russian President Vladimir Putin again rejected the accusations made against Moscow for the alleged poisoning of dissident Alexei Navalny, expressing his conviction that American intelligence is behind the case.

During Thursday’s expanded annual press conference, Putin touched on the subject of the “Berlin patient”, as he himself put it, without naming Navalny, noting that recent press reports on the circumstances of the outright case point to targeting Russian leaders.

The Russian president said Navalny has the backing of Western intelligence and described the press reports about his alleged poisoning as “not an investigation but an attempt to legitimize the efforts of American intelligence.”

He continued: “If this information is correct, and I confirm that it is correct, then this means that this patient in a Berlin hospital has the support of American intelligence, and if that is also true, then it is an interesting matter and intelligence (Russian) should follow him. But that doesn’t mean at all. “It is necessary to poison him. Who cares? If we wanted to, we probably would have completed the mission. “

Putin recalled that he immediately agreed to transfer Navalny for treatment in Germany, when the opponent’s wife requested it.

These statements come as a comment to a recent report published by CNN, Spiegel and Benningcat, according to which eight members of the Russian Federal Security Service followed Navalny’s movements and tried to poison him more than once.
