The French radio station “France Cultur” and the Institute for the Arab World in Paris have prepared a series of special programs on Lebanon, in which various thinkers, historians and artists will participate this weekend, some two months later of the horrific explosion in the port of Beirut.

A joint statement from the radio and the institute indicated that the Lebanese “Weekend” through “France Cultur” begins at 6pm on Friday and continues until the end of Sunday, and includes programs, debates, interviews. and documentaries on the Lebanese situation, two months after the disaster that killed more than 190 people, some 6,500 injured and 300,000 displaced.

At the same time, the Institute of the Arab World will organize two evenings on September 25 and 26 at its headquarters in the French capital, with the aim of mobilizing French and international public opinion. For two days, “more than 60 leading artists, intellectuals and activists will participate.”

The statement said that this activity aims to “respond with beauty, words and ideas to the tragedies that the Lebanese people bravely face.” The proceeds from these activities will go to support Lebanese organizations. This activity will be preceded by a conference that will take place on Thursday, September 24 at the Institute under the title “Lebanon today between citizenship and sharing”, jointly by video link with the French Institute in Beirut.

The director of France Cultur, Sandrine Treanier, said that this operation aims to avoid “the fall of the tragedy that Lebanon has suffered in a kind of dark hole” and avoid being forgotten by other facts and events. She added that “the floor” will be given during this activity to “thinkers and researchers from both shores of the Mediterranean”, and stressed that the programmed programs will constitute a space for understanding the crisis in Lebanon.

He recalled that Lebanon “has a fundamental role in terms of ideas. It is a fertile cultural ground, but it has been the subject of strong blows, including the Syrian crisis, the Covid-19 pandemic and finally the explosion of the port of Beirut.”
