President Aoun’s speech occurred during his reception at the Baabda Palace in the presence of the representative Elias Bou Saab, the Beirut metropolitan and his dependencies for the Greek Orthodox Archbishop Elias Odeh, who presented with him the general conditions in the country and a series of matters of interest to the Greek Orthodox community, especially in terms of its national role and its presence in departments and institutions. general

For his part, the bishop affirmed his return of appreciation “for the combined role of the President of the Republic and for the heads of all constitutional institutions,” stressing “the importance of the participation of members of the Orthodox community in administrative positions and functional based on experience, competence and cleanliness of the palm “.

Bishop briefed President Aoun on the deliberations of the meeting held in the Archdiocese in Ashrafieh, which issued a written statement unanimously by those present, stating that “the Orthodox stand side by side with the option of a civil status based on real citizenship and equality of rights and duties, especially since they were not sectarian one day. However, until civil status is established, it is their right to actively participate in the construction of their state through administrative, judicial and military positions. “

Bishop Odeh considered that “replacing high-ranking Orthodox employees without other employees should be for good reason without any injustice occurring to them, especially if they are not perpetrators,” explaining that he had put “the file on Orthodox appointments under the custody of President Aoun. ” Calling “to lift the injustice of the people of the Orthodox community”.

President Aoun met with the Mayor of Damour, Charles Ghaffri, who informed him of the decision of the Damour Municipal Council to “allocate a land area of ​​one hundred thousand square meters of communal municipality to establish the” Academy of Man for Trust and the Dialogue “launched by President Aoun and approved by the United Nations General Assembly at its ordinary session last September.”

President Aoun thanked the mayor for “this step”, noting “the importance of establishing the academy in Damour, the Lebanese city, which has a unique national and cultural heritage.”
