The President of the Republic, General Michel Aoun, received a telephone call tonight from the Secretary of State of the United States, Mike Pompeo, during which he discussed Lebanese-American relations and recent developments, including negotiations on the demarcation of the southern maritime borders.
During the call, President Aoun thanked Secretary Pompeo for the role of the United States as facilitator of the negotiations, and stressed that Lebanon is determined to preserve its rights and sovereignty on land and sea. The US secretary informed President Aoun that his country had sent aid to rebuild the damaged neighborhoods in Beirut as a result of the explosion in the port on 4 August.
