The head of the Catholic Church called on politicians and religious leaders to adhere honestly and transparently to reconstruction work, abandon partisan interests and look to the common good and the future of the nation, and called on the international community to “Support the country to help it get out of this dangerous crisis, without getting involved in regional tensions.”
Pope Francis added: “For more than a hundred years, Lebanon has been a country of hope. Even in the darkest periods of its history, the Lebanese have preserved their faith in God and demonstrated the ability to make their land a place only one of tolerance, respect and coexistence in the region “.
He said: “For the sake of Lebanon, but also for the sake of the world, we cannot allow this heritage to be lost. Therefore, I encourage all Lebanese to continue to have hope and to find the necessary strength and energy. to start again”.
Pope Francis addressed Beirut residents who had been subjected to a harsh ordeal as a result of the blast, saying: “Take heart, my brothers! May faith and prayer be your strength.
The Pope announced that he intends to send a representative to Lebanon, who is the Vatican Secretary of State, Cardinal Pietro Parolin.
