US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo has warned that the law that raises the level of uranium enrichment in Iran and reduces its cooperation with the International Atomic Energy Agency brings Tehran closer to possessing a nuclear weapon.
Pompeo criticized, in a statement released Friday by the US State Department, the law passed by Iran’s Guardian Council, describing it as “the latest conspiracy by the (Iranian) regime to exploit its nuclear program to blackmail the community. international”.
The US minister pointed out that the law requires, if it enters into force, to raise the level of uranium enrichment to 20%, which, according to him, represents a “dangerous level”, in addition to expanding uranium stocks, research operations and production, and the deployment of advanced centrifuges, adding that Tehran has not provided any technical justification confirming the need to accelerate the level of enrichment for peaceful purposes.
Pompeo stressed that this law, which obliges the Iranian government to also limit its cooperation with the International Atomic Energy Agency, “represents a dangerous escalation that brings Iran closer to gaining the ability to obtain nuclear weapons.”
