The Secretary of State of the United States, Mike Pompeo, asks the executive agencies to “consider null and void all communication guidelines for relations with Taiwan, previously issued by the State Department.”
The Secretary of State of the United States, Mike Pompeo, announced on Saturday the lifting of restrictions on relations between the United States and Taiwan.
Pompeo said in his statement: “Today I announce the lifting of all those restrictions that we have imposed … Executive agencies must consider all communication directives on relations with Taiwan that the State Department previously issued in accordance with the powers conferred upon it. Secretary of State are null and void. “
Pompeo removed all restrictions placed over the years on US officials’ communication with Taiwan.
Today, I lift all self-imposed restrictions on executive branch agencies’ interactions with their Taiwanese counterparts. This action will benefit our two great democracies. https://t.co/JmxE5jsZYf

“The United States had taken these steps unilaterally to satisfy the communist regime in Beijing. This matter is over,” his statement said.
Pompeo’s statement also stated that “the US administration maintains relationships with unofficial partners around the world, and Taiwan is no exception.”
It should be noted that China confirmed two days ago that the United States “will pay a high price for its mistake”, following Pompeo’s statements, that those involved in the Hong Kong arrests can be punished, and that the United States ambassador to the United States United will visit Taiwan.
Chinese Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Hua Chunying called on Washington to “immediately stop interfering in China’s internal affairs.”
China’s Foreign Ministry had said in November that Beijing would respond to any measure that “undermines its basic interests” after US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo said that Taiwan “is not part of China.”
China views Taiwan as the most important and sensitive issue in its relations with the United States, and has been angered by the intense support it received from the Trump administration, including arms sales.
China imposed sanctions on US companies that sell weapons to Taiwan and launched fighter jets near the island during a visit by senior US officials to Taipei last year.
Relations between China and the United States are experiencing continuous tension, which will intensify in 2020, in the context of many problems, the most important of which are the coronavirus, the Hong Kong and Taiwan problem, trade disputes and the problem of energy fields in the South China Sea.
