Pinterest pays $ 22.5 million after employee accused of sex discrimination

The US company “Pinterest”, accused by its former operations manager of discrimination on the basis of sex, agreed to pay 20 million dollars and 2.5 million dollars to associations that defend women and minorities in technology companies.

The two parties stated in a joint letter received by Agence France-Presse that the aforementioned employee, Francoise Brueger, will withdraw her complaint under this agreement.

“Pinterest recognizes the importance of fostering a diverse and equitable work environment without exclusions, and will continue to enhance its” professional culture, according to the statement.

However, the online photo-sharing platform did not formally acknowledge its liability under the agreement.

“I will continue to work for equality in companies, especially in terms of improving the presence of women in departments,” Brugger wrote on Twitter.

In a lengthy letter she posted on Medium’s website in August, coinciding with her complaint, Brugger was particularly interested in the group assigning a significantly lower salary than her male colleagues earn, as well as excluding her from important decisions.

Brugger also accused Pinterest of firing her in April 2020, after two years of her employment, after she began to speak out against what she described as “progressive discrimination” and “a hostile work environment” based on “comprehensive negative discrimination against women.”
