Quentin Tarantino will contribute to what the American director described as the “often sidelined, but loved” subgenre of motion pictures, after he was hired to write a novel based on his latest film, “Once Upon a Time in Hollywood,” released in summer 2019.

The 57-year-old artist’s deal with HarperCollins includes two books, including Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, which follows an actor whose star has faded and his replacement in Los Angeles in 1969, where they cross paths with a loyal group. to the criminal Charles Manson, and the work will be published in June 2021. A work described by the publisher as “funny but at the same time delicious and brutal”, according to the British newspaper The Guardian.
In a statement, Tarantino said that motion picture novels were the first adult books he read in the 1970s. He added: “To this day, I have an enormous amount of affection for this genre … Therefore, I proud to announce my contribution in this field … I am also delighted to explore my characters and their world in a literary endeavor that can (hopefully) sit next to its cinematic counterpart. ».
The second book, titled Cinema Speculation, is a “deep dive into the movies of the 1970s … a rich mix of personal and exciting articles, reviews, and writings.”
In this context, HarperCollins Vice President and Executive Editor Noa Ecker said in an interview with Deadline that Tarantino’s literary talent has been on the horizon since his earliest texts, “but to see how skilled he is at bringing his characters on the paper.
