Officially, the United Arab Emirates and Israel sign the historic peace treaty

The United Arab Emirates officially signed the peace treaty with Israel on Tuesday, which also signed an accord declaring peace with Bahrain, at the White House in the presence of US President Donald Trump.

On the Emirati side, Foreign Minister Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan signed the agreement, while the Israeli side represented Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

Bahrain’s Foreign Minister Abdul Latif Al-Zayani also signed an agreement declaring his support for peace with Israel, days after Manama confirmed that it had reached an agreement with Tel Aviv.

This historic event, which took place on the South Lawn of the White House, was attended by some 700 guests from around the world.

Trump said, in his speech to a large number of White House officials: “We are here to change the course of history … We are taking a historic step thanks to these three countries, in order to promote peace and prosperity”.

He explained that Israel, the United Arab Emirates and Bahrain will exchange embassies and “closely cooperate and coordinate their efforts in many sectors of tourism, trade, health care and security.”

He noted that this step “will open the door for Muslims from all over the world to visit the Al-Aqsa mosque and Israel.”

For his part, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said the peace “will be expanded to include other Arab countries, so that then it will be possible to put an end to the Arab-Israeli conflict forever.”

He also noted that “the great economic benefits of our association can be felt throughout the region and will reach all of our citizens.”

As for the UAE Foreign Minister, Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, he stressed that this peace represents “a new idea that will create a better way and change the face of the Middle East.”

He also emphasized that this treaty is “a historic achievement for the United States, Israel and the United Arab Emirates.”
