The Axios website cited sources saying that the administration of US President Donald Trump is preparing, with Israel and the Gulf states, to impose new sanctions on Iran before Joe Biden is installed as the new president in January.

The newspaper reported that US special envoy to Iran, Elliot Abrams, met with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and National Security Council President Meir Ben Shabat on Sunday in Israel to discuss the sanctions plan.
Abrams will hold talks on Monday with Israeli Defense Minister Benny Gantz and Foreign Minister Gabi Ashkenazi.
Israeli sources told the site that what was described as a “deluge” of sanctions would increase pressure on Iran and prevent Biden from returning to the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action.
The website revealed that Abrams had previously announced in closed activity that the Trump administration planned to impose new sanctions on Iran each week until Biden’s inauguration as the new president on January 20.
An informed Israeli source told the newspaper: “The goal is to impose as many sanctions as possible on Iran by January 20.”
In this context, it was reported that the Trump administration, with the support of Israeli diplomats and security officials, drew up in weeks a list of Iranian institutions that would be subject to sanctions.
It has also been indicated that the new restrictions will not be related to the Iranian nuclear program, but will affect the ballistic missile program, which Tehran provides, according to Washington, to terrorist organizations, and in the context of human rights violations.
The Axios website revealed that Abrams will travel from Israel to the United Arab Emirates and then to Saudi Arabia to discuss the sanctions plan.
At the same time, US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo is scheduled to arrive in Israel on November 18 and may visit other countries in the region in an attempt to increase pressure on Iran.
