On Friday, China officially congratulated Joe Biden, who was announced by the US media as the winner of the US presidential election, and its vice president, Kamala Harris, according to the “Voice of America” website.
“We extend our congratulations to Mr. Biden and Ms. Harris,” Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Wenbin said today at a press conference, adding: “We are following the reaction to the US presidential elections (at level) of the United States and the international community. “
“We respect the choice of the American people. While we understand that the results of the American elections will be determined in accordance with laws and procedures,” he said.
Joe Biden is expected to be installed as president of the United States on January 20, following his clear lead in the November 3 election.
China lagged behind Russia and other countries that had offered their congratulations to Biden last week on the occasion of declaring his victory in the presidential election.
Experts rule out the possibility of radical changes in the relationship between the United States and China, in the Biden period.
Relations between the two countries have seen great tension due to Trump’s criticism of China on trade and human rights issues, in addition to accusations leveled against Beijing for espionage and technology piracy.
