MENA Observatory – Lebanon
The Asharq Al-Awsat newspaper revealed that Washington is about to issue a new package of sanctions that will affect Lebanese personalities.
The newspaper quoted US Undersecretary of State for Middle East Affairs David Schenker as saying that Washington does not distinguish between Hezbollah’s military and civilian wings, and that there is no justification for such discrimination. Because they follow leadership and the party interferes in the internal affairs of various Arab countries, it sponsors groups that work to destabilize them and forms Iran’s military and security arm.
The newspaper noted that Schenker’s position was reported by several Lebanese MPs who resigned from Parliament. Schenker had met with them at the headquarters of the Lebanese Falangist Party without revealing the details of these sanctions, and whether they included new names for “Hezbollah” or its allies or Associations and institutions affiliated with the party.
Schenker noted that US President Donald Trump reached out to French President Emmanuel Macron before launching his initiative to save Lebanon, and said his understanding provides full support for the French roadmap that was adopted. for all those who met with the French President on his second visit to Beirut.
