Yesterday, the Secretary of State of the United States, Mike Pompeo, welcomed the decision made by Guatemala to designate Hezbollah as a terrorist organization.

Praising Guatemala’s decision, Pompeo said: “The world now knows the truth about Hezbollah.”

In a statement, the minister called on the rest of the countries of the region to follow the example of Guatemala in this regard, due to its effects that contribute to weakening regulation.

He said: “We call on the countries of the region to take the example of Guatemala and cut off Hezbollah’s ability to plan terrorist attacks and raise funds.”

The US Secretary of State stressed that “the reality of Hezbollah has been exposed to a large number of countries in the world, in contrast to the image in which the organization wants to present itself.”

“A large number of countries in the world have come to know that Hezbollah is not a defender of Lebanon, but a terrorist organization,” he said.

He added that Hezbollah is “a terrorist organization specialized in implementing Iran’s malicious agenda.”

In his remarks, the minister linked Hezbollah and other terrorist organizations, such as ISIS and Al Qaeda, regarding their spread.

He explained that “Hezbollah, as well as ISIS and al-Qaeda, has a global reach, and recent years have witnessed the frustration of many of its plans in America, the Middle East, Europe, Africa and Asia.”

Pompeo emphasized “the US call to its allies to designate Hezbollah as a terrorist organization,” noting that “there is no difference between the organization’s military wing and its political wing.”

On Friday, Guatemala officially designated Hezbollah as a terrorist organization, in a move that was praised by several countries around the world.

And Hezbollah’s classification of Guatemala includes the entire organization in all its branches, according to the Israeli website, “i24.”

Israel’s Foreign Minister Gabi Ashkenazi also welcomed Guatemala’s decision, saying: “I am pleased to see the multiple diplomatic efforts led by the Foreign Ministry and the security forces to enhance recognition of Hezbollah as a terrorist organization that is bearing fruit and is recognized in the world in general and in Latin America in particular. “
