The Austrian Ministry of Health confirmed the stability of the situation in the country, and the rate of new infections fell to around 0.2%, after having reached 50% in mid-March.
The ministry noted that the first stage of lifting the closure was excellent, but reminded citizens of the need to remain vigilant despite the easing of restrictions.
Small shops and garden supply stores opened their doors in the middle of last month after a month of closing, although putting masks on stores and public transportation has become mandatory in addition to complying with social separation rules.
The largest stores were opened to the public last weekend, and restrictions were lifted that prevented citizens from leaving their homes. Lessons will resume in schools this month, while restaurants are expected to reopen in mid-May.
And Austria, which has a population of more than nine million people, remained relatively untouched by the health crisis, announcing only 15,600 cases so far and 606 deaths. More than 13,400 people have recovered.
