The tribulations of the Lebanese government ended in a political agreement that led to Lebanon’s ambassador to Germany, Mustafa Adib, becoming the most likely candidate to form the new government, with the recommendation of former prime minister Saad Hariri, former prime ministers, and the approval of the Shiite duo, that is, the Amal Movement headed by the Speaker of Parliament Nabih Berri and Hezbollah. ».
Adeeb is close to former Prime Minister Najib Mikati, who served as director of his office, before he was appointed during Mikati’s second government reign as Lebanese ambassador to Berlin. By naming Adeeb, Hariri and the former prime ministers have become part of the deal, unlike the previous time when they refrained from naming, and President Hassan Diab was brought in to form the government.
“Asharq Al-Awsat” learned that several names had been proposed to take over, including Prime Minister Hariri’s aunt, MP Bahia Al-Hariri, MP Samir Al-Jisr and former Minister Rachid Derbas. However, Hariri said that “any of them is like me, and we don’t want a direct role.” According to the information, French President Emmanuel Macron, who arrives in Beirut today (Monday), contacted President Michel Aoun and Parliament Nabih Berri yesterday, and informed them of his agreement on the name, while sources from the Eighth Forces They told Al-Sharq Al-Awsat that the agreement was imposed after Macron’s insistence on forming a consensus government and linking any aid to Lebanon to a real reform process. Sources indicated that Hariri suggested three names, namely the Chairman of the Board of Directors of the National Aviation Company, Muhammad al-Hout, and the Attorney General for Discrimination, Ghassan Oweidat and Mustafa Adib. The source said that the agreement is not yet complete, as it is now limited to the name of the prime minister, and as for its form, it is left for further communication.
On Macron’s agenda in Beirut, several political meetings discuss ways to lift the country out of its political impasse and pressure the Lebanese political class to accelerate the formation of a government that carries out the necessary reforms.
In this context, the French president renewed his support for the efforts made to form the future government, through a contact with President Michel Aoun, during which he referred to his visit to Beirut and the current political events in Lebanon, as the Lebanese presidency reported yesterday. He will begin his tour with a meeting with the owner of “I Love You Lebanon”, Mrs. Fairouz, with a visit to her home, away from the media.
In the line of forming a government, the Maronite patriarch, Cardinal Bechara Al-Rai, called for an “emergency mini-government with the powers it needs to get out of the depths of its economic, financial and social misery, and achieve the necessary reforms”, highlighting his rejection of “settlements and pacts at the cost of the essence of the Lebanese entity.”
For his part, the excellent Mufti Jaafari, Sheikh Ahmed Qabalan, stressed the need to “accelerate the formation of a rescue government, a government that is not dependent but in the interest of the Lebanese, and that is not committed to the East or the West except in what serves the stability of Lebanon, and strengthens it in the face of the game of impoverishment and hunger, the black heresy of exclusive dependencies. ” »Considering that“ it is the responsibility of the new government to make big and fateful decisions on the scale of the country’s crisis, and this needs bold national leaderships that take care of and benefit from anyone without breaking with anyone, otherwise Lebanon will be a dependency and a toy in the hand of whoever decides to help him ”.
