According to the British network “Sky News”, the study that was initially presented, tried to find out if this lotion was able to reduce the levels of the virus in the saliva of a person with Corona disease.
This study was carried out at the University of Cardiff in Great Britain, and was based on mouthwashes in which the percentage of “cetylpyridinium” chloride reached 0.07 percent.
The study indicated that this lotion showed “promising results” in reducing the burden of the virus for the infected person.
Along the same lines, a previous study had confirmed that mouthwash containing “CPC” had shown efficacy in reducing the load of viruses in the body.
The researchers conducted several experiments within the laboratory, simulating the functions of the nasopharynx and throat, in addition to the use of liquid mouthwashes such as “Dental.”
The study says it took information about the bleach from the “Venture Life” group that “Dental” produces, but did not get any financial support from the company.
The study aimed to clarify this matter, and deny the obtaining of financing by the company, to avoid being accused of advertising the product for health reasons.
In a parallel step, clinical trials will be carried out at the University Hospital of Wales over a period of 12 weeks to find out if this lotion is really capable of reducing the virus load in the patient’s saliva.
The results are expected to be finally released in early 2021.
Professor David Thomas, a Cardiff University researcher who oversees clinical trials, said the study was conducted in the laboratory so far, but it is a positive step, even if more clinical research is needed.
The expert stated: “We need to know if this positive effect of mouthwash in laboratory experiments will also be repeated among Corona patients.”
And he affirmed that if this efficacy is confirmed, mouthwash will become common in the deal with Corona, such as sterilization, hand washing, the use of masks and taking into account social distancing.
