Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov spoke with Syrian Foreign Minister Faisal Al-Miqdad in Moscow on Thursday to strengthen bilateral relations between the two countries.

For his part, Al-Miqdad said that the number of countries that have expressed their desire to contribute to the reconstruction of Syria is not small, adding that “these countries are aware that the reconstruction in Syria is a benefit for all countries. of the region and the world ”. And he continued, “There are many countries that have been directly threatened by Before the United States.”

Al-Miqdad referred to the issue of the constitutional committee, saying that the work of the constitutional committee must be “in harmony with national interests without outside interference.” He added: “Solving the crisis facing Syria requires a national stance that emphasizes our principles, and in particular the unity of the land and people of Syria.” “The work of this committee must be owned by the Syrians, without any interference that hinders its work from countries that have no right to interfere,” he said.

Regarding the international conference on the return of Syrian refugees to his country, he considered that “there was Western hysteria to prevent the countries of the world from participating in the international conference held in Damascus on the return of Syrian refugees to their homeland.” He added that “Western countries now speak a language in which there is not a minimum of concern for peace and security in the world, and in which there is sometimes not a minimum of courtesy.”

In another context, Lavrov announced at a press conference that Russia has delivered 100,000 tons of wheat to Syria as humanitarian aid since the beginning of 2020 and intends to contribute more. “With regard to the tasks of restoring the Syrian economy, very serious decisions have been made in recent weeks, which will greatly increase the capacities of the consolidated appeal to organize work in a systematic way. We will continue to provide humanitarian assistance,” he added.
