The number of new daily infections with the new Corona virus exceeded four thousand this Wednesday for the first time since the beginning of April, when the country required isolation measures, as reported by official figures, while the high number of infected reawakens concern. of the government.
And the Robert Koch Institute for Health Surveillance said on its website that the total number of injured rose to 310,144 on Wednesday, an increase of 4,058 from the previous day.
The number of injured surpassed the threshold of 4,000 for the first time on April 11, during the height of isolation measures, according to historical data from AFP.
This increase comes as the fall holidays begin soon in much of the country and with the call from the government of Chancellor Angela Merkel to limit travel.
On Wednesday, the regions also agreed to tougher travel restrictions, with a ban on hotel or tourist apartment accommodation for travelers from regions with national risks.
With an average of more than 50 cases per 100,000 inhabitants in a week, which requires, according to the regulations of the authorities, new restrictions, some districts of Berlin and Bremen, as well as the districts of the northwest and near Stuttgart, enter this category.
Faced with the alarming increase in the number of new infections, Berlin and the Frankfurt Financial Center, where the contagion rate is close to 50 per 100,000, announced on Tuesday the imposition of curfews and restrictions on social communication.
In the German capital, most shops, as well as all restaurants and bars, must be closed from eleven at night to six in the morning from Saturday to October 31 at the earliest.
German government spokesman Steffen Seibert said on Wednesday that the further increase in cases, “especially in some major cities,” is no longer “attributable to isolated outbreaks, but raises fears of further spread of the virus.”
German Health Minister Jens Young and Institute Director Lothar Feller Koch will hold a press conference on Thursday afternoon.
