The Washington-based bank said the extreme poverty rate would rise for the first time in more than twenty years. By 2021, this figure could reach 150 million people living on $ 1.90 a day, less than the price of a cup of coffee in a developed country.
“On the other hand, expectations indicate that a growing number of urban dwellers will sink into extreme poverty, while this situation tends to affect people in rural areas,” the bank added.
