The Minister of Public Health of the interim government, Dr. Hamad Hassan, tonight launched at the Rafic Hariri International Airport in Beirut the new technology to diagnose the Coronavirus infection in arrivals to Lebanon through the airport using the sense of smell of trained dogs, and this technique was achieved by a team of French researchers. The Lebanese, including the inventor of this technology, Dr. Riad Sarkis.
This technology was launched in the presence of Minister Hamad Hassan, the Director General of Civil Aviation, Engineer Fadi Al Hassan, Dr. Riyad Sarkis and a delegation representing the French Embassy in Lebanon and the Head of the Department of Health in the airport, Dr. Hassan Mallah.

Minister Hassan spoke and said: “There is no doubt that we are living in a decisive phase in epidemiological behavior, and we must use all the methods that prevent the dangerous outbreak that we have reached, and that we ensure this technology at the airport with so much precision and high sensitivity certainly saves us from performing many, but rather thousands of tests that we use per scan. We carry out in closed areas within the red zone, and at the same time we follow up the examinations of some countries so that in a first stage we balance between the PCR tests and the diagnosis by trained dogs, and later and gradually these dogs can be used in front of some civil, military or security institutions or meetings. Within the Lebanese territories, that is, it can be used at the doors of universities, schools, institutions and public administrations as well as many countries in the world such as France and the Emirates airport, and we believe that with this technology we can strengthen our strategy preventive to contain what can be contained of the social explosion that is in the goal and desired goal with everyone. Measures taken by the Lebanese Ministry of Health ”.

Minister Hassan said: “I mentioned it yesterday in an interview to clarify the Spanish scenario in terms of the injury rate and the incidence rate without approaching the death rate, and that we are still up to date with the injuries, containing the injured, isolating them, putting them in quarantine and providing care either in their homes or in quarantine centers to avoid the Spanish or Italian scenario in terms of the number of deaths and the acceleration of the incidence.

And he added: “We approach the Italian panorama with one or two items, but we try hard and try not to fall into what we fear, which is to register the enormous amount of injuries that our public and private health system does not accommodate on the one hand , and moral tolerance, God forbid, to the death toll. “

Hassan noted that, “according to Middle East Airlines, the amount of $ 50 will no longer be deducted from the price of the PCR test for those who do not re-take this test at the airport, but this amount is deducted from country arrivals. unreliable. “

He added: “This technology that we apply today requires expenses in terms of human, logistical and technical personnel.”
Hassan has indicated that “there are four trained dogs that the French team will present as a gift to the airport team at the end of next month, in addition to the dogs at the disposal of the security services, an apprentice who can contribute to this framework.”

Minister Hassan said: “In the first stage, according to the experience we have done, we will continue to do PCR tests in parallel with the dog diagnosis, and the result reaches 100 percent even in the virus incubation stage, and with this technology we can test about two hundred travelers on a flight, in 45 minutes. That is to say, with little time, and thus be able to identify and isolate the injured person before he / she joins society.

The Minister of Health considered that “this new technology is an innovative and civilized new idea and that the richest countries in the world use it.”

Regarding the coronavirus vaccine, Hassan pointed out that all countries are still in the third phase of clinical studies on the vaccine, and we have made the necessary contacts and correspondence to ensure the vaccine either through the World Organization of Health when a vaccine is approved, whether from China, Russia, France or Great Britain. We provide all the correspondence that would allow Lebanon to ensure coverage of twenty percent of its citizens through the grouping called Kovacs. We also paved the way for private companies to communicate with foreign companies to invest in this field, especially in these circumstances, to ensure this vaccine.

Sarkis
For his part, Dr. Riad Sarkis indicated, “The effectiveness of this very precise technique will be of great help in addition to the PCR tests, all of them medical techniques to alleviate the epidemic and the major infection catastrophe in order to continue giving treatment to the wounded. “
