Military police conduct investigation into Beirut port fire

On Thursday, the Military Police of the Lebanese Armed Forces launched an investigation into the new fire that broke out in the port of Beirut.

The Lebanese army said, in a brief statement on Twitter, that the Military Police “have started an investigation into the fire, with the signal of the Military Prosecutor’s Office,” without giving further details.

Today, the Acting Minister of Works, Michel Najjar, announced that the Beirut port fire was due to repair work and an investigation into its causes will be opened.

No casualties from the fire were reported until 16:20 GMT.

On August 4, the Lebanese capital spent a bloody night, as a result of a large explosion in the port of Beirut, which left 192 dead, more than 6 thousand injured and dozens missing, in addition to massive material damage and losses of about 15 $ 1 billion, according to an unlimited official estimate.

According to preliminary official estimates, the terminal explosion occurred due to some 2,750 tonnes of “ammonium nitrate”, which has been confiscated and stored since 2014.
