Following Prime Minister Saad Hariri’s announcement of his willingness to “take poison” and to accept the assignment by the Finance Ministry of a Shiite minister, previous presidents Najib Mikati, Fouad Siniora and Tamam Salam issued the following statement:

The initiative presented by Prime Minister Saad Hariri is a personal initiative.
The Lebanese constitution is very clear in the sense that there is no ministerial portfolio that can be a monopoly or an exclusive right of the ministers belonging to a particular sect or sect, and nothing prevents, according to the constitution, that no Lebanese is to position, and to which sectarian or sectarian group he belongs. To him, any ministerial portfolio in Lebanon.

It is that, after the fabricated uproar that arose over the portfolio of the Ministry of Finance, we consider ourselves not bound by this initiative.

The main issue remains, for us as for the rest of the Lebanese, in the importance of fully respecting and adhering to the principle of preserving the constitution and safeguarding it from any violation that some may take as a step towards the establishment of a contrary practice or custom. to the text of the constitution.
