A source familiar with the investigation told “Agence France Presse” that police officers face charges of committing “racist violence” and making false testimonies.
The assault occurred in early November when police broke into a music studio in Paris, where they beat up music producer Michel Zekler.
A surveillance camera installed at the site documented the attack and French media published the video last week, leading to the opening of an investigation into the incident.
French media reported that President Emmanuel Macron was “deeply shocked” by the action of the police officers.
Interior Minister Gerald Darmanan said in press releases that “the officers will be punished if the allegations are confirmed.”
The music producer told reporters: “The police raided him at the music studio in the 17th arrondissement of Paris on February 21.”
He claimed that he was walking down the street without a muzzle, and when he saw a police car he entered the nearby studio to avoid the fine, but the police tracked him down and proceeded to beat and assault him in racist terms.
