The office of the Lebanese Parliament Speaker Nabih Berri said his party rejects the method followed by Prime Minister-designate Mustafa Adib to form a new government, and stated that he will not join the cabinet on the basis of that, but will cooperate in everything that is necessary for the stability of your country in crisis.

Berri’s office, which leads the Shiite Amal movement allied with Hezbollah, criticized in a statement Prime Minister-designate Mustafa Adib’s method of forming the government, including the lack of negotiation.

Berri’s office confirmed in the statement that the problem is not with the French nor is it an internal problem, after a political ally of Berri said he had spoken by phone with French President Emmanuel Macron, who urged Lebanon to implement reforms. .

In a related context, the head of the Free Patriotic Movement in Lebanon, Gebran Bassil, expressed his unwillingness to participate in the next government on Sunday, adding: “We will not participate in the government, but we will help it achieve reform, and We accompany and help him from the parliament “.

Macron calls

Meanwhile, the French president made a phone call to Nabih Berri, speaker of the Lebanese parliament, in an attempt to overcome a hurdle to meet a deadline this week to form a government that would lift the country out of its crisis.

France had envisaged measures that should be taken to eliminate rampant corruption in the country and tackle a number of economic problems so that Lebanon could obtain international aid.

When Macron visited Beirut on September 1, the Lebanese leadership promised to form a government of specialists without partisan loyalties within two weeks of its end.

Meanwhile, the European Commissioner for Crisis Management, Janez Lenarchic, called for the acceleration of the formation of a “credible” government in Lebanon, stressing that it is a sine qua non condition to launch the second phase of international support to the country mired in their crises.

“We need a credible government that enjoys the trust of the Lebanese and is determined to lead the country in the right direction,” he said in an interview with Agence France-Presse after meeting Prime Minister-designate Mustafa Adeeb.

The European Commissioner arrived in Beirut on Saturday to lead a shipment of humanitarian aid, which is the third the European Union has guaranteed to deliver to Lebanon after the terrible port explosion last month, and included ambulances, personal protective equipment and medicines. .

Comprehensive change

The task of forming the government is assumed by Prime Minister-designate Mustafa Adeeb, a Sunni who resigned as Beirut’s ambassador to Berlin to take office. Adeeb did not make many statements, but sources said he wanted a comprehensive change in the leadership of the ministries that were assigned to a single sect for years.

Whoever holds the post of Finance Minister will be at the center of launching the reform program needed to overcome a banking crisis that caused the currency to collapse and pushed many Lebanese into poverty.

It should be noted that Hassan Diab’s government resigned 6 days after the attack on the port of Beirut, and on August 31, Lebanese President Michel Aoun assigned Mustafa Adib to form a new government, which coincided with the visit of French President Emmanuel Macron , whom the Lebanese parties accuse of interfering in the internal affairs of their country.
