French President Emmanuel Macron called on Lebanese politicians to fulfill their promises to form the new government this week, a source at the Elysee said on Sunday. Berri leads the Amal movement, the Shiite party allied with Hezbollah, which enjoys broad influence in Lebanon. He said in a statement Sunday that the Amal movement opposes the current method of government formation, adding that he does not want to participate in it.

Adeeb, a Sunni politician, did not make many statements, but sources said he wanted a comprehensive change in the leadership of ministries, some of which were assigned only to the same sects for years.
France developed a detailed roadmap for steps to be taken to eliminate rampant corruption in the country and to address other issues that crippled the banking sector and caused the value of the local currency, the lira, to collapse.
Political sources also indicated that Berri toughened his stance on the new government after the imposition of US sanctions a week ago on Hezbollah allies, which Washington classifies as a terrorist group, and Paris considers it to have a legitimate political role.
