The documentary “Libya … Crossing to Hell” (Prepared by: Abdullah Malkawi – Julie Dongolov – and Catherine Norris Trent) was nominated for the final list of the One World Media Award, among three films in the category of reports dealing with issues of refugees around the world. In the film (40 minutes) that was shown in France on December 24, the French network team escorted a boat to the Libyan coast guard at sea, forcing 120 immigrants, most of them Sudanese, to return to Libya. After being transferred to detention centers, they lacked the minimum capacities. There, after lengthy negotiations, the team entered a shelter in the city of Zliten and collected impressive testimonies from immigrants. Those among the hundreds of thousands of immigrants have fled the armed conflicts in Libya and have tried to find a safe haven for them on the European continent. The documentary also accompanied two men from the militias in the city of Misurata, who are fighting alongside the regular forces of the Al-Wefaq government, in an attempt to transfer the reality of the conflict from the heart of the fronts and highlighting the role of drones in this battle. The awards are reported to be announced on June 18 via the Internet.
