The President of the Republic, General Michel Aoun, affirmed that Lebanon “renews its commitment to work to achieve the seventeen sustainable development goals by 2030, despite the difficult circumstances it is going through so that we can all achieve a better world. for us and for future generations. “

During his speech in Lebanon, President Aoun pointed out, through a video link in front of the Eighth International Conference on Sustainable Development, that Lebanon has been subjected to successive shocks, from the Syrian displacement crisis to the epidemic of Corona and the tragedy of the explosion in the port of Beirut, and the enormous human and material losses it caused.

And while thanking the countries that came to help Lebanon, highlighting the need to deliver aid to those who deserve it, repairing damaged houses and rebuilding the port, the President of the Republic clarified that Lebanon “needs much more support from the international community and United Nations organizations to help you overcome these emergency circumstances, through action. ” Directed and close cooperation with each other and with government agencies, programming humanitarian aid to ensure economic and social stability, and pushing towards the achievement of the desired sustainable development, to address present problems and prepare for future needs.

An indication that the conference was convened by the Secretary General of the United Nations, Antonio Guterres, at the level of heads of state and leaders, to discuss ways to overcome the repercussions and consequences of the Crown epidemic, and achieve the goals set for sustainable development during this decade.
