A major fire broke out in the Beirut port area

A fire broke out in the port of Beirut on Thursday, sending a huge column of black smoke into the sky over the Lebanese capital, just over a month after a massive explosion destroyed the port facilities and their surroundings.

A Lebanese military source said: “A fire broke out in a tire and oil warehouse in the port of Beirut, and the cause of the fire is not yet known.”

The Lebanese army said it used its helicopters to help extinguish a fire that broke out in the port of Beirut.

On August 4, an explosion occurred in the port of Beirut, killing about 180 people and injuring more than 6,000 more.

Authorities said the blast was caused by storage of ammonium nitrate at the port in poor condition.
