Beirut – (AFP):

The Lebanese army confirmed on Saturday that it continues to search for 9 people still missing after the Beirut port explosion last month, and announced the completion of the survey of damaged buildings, which included more than 85,000 units.

The August 4 explosion killed more than 190 people, injured more than 6,500 and displaced some 300,000 Beirut residents, whose homes and institutions were damaged or destroyed.

“The file on the disappeared has not been closed and will not be closed,” said the director of the Public Relations Department of the Lebanese Army, Brigadier General Elias Aad, noting that the search for nine disappeared, three Lebanese, five Syrians and an Egyptian.

At the conference, the army announced that it had “relieved 85,744 damaged units,” including 60,818 homes, 962 restaurants, 19,115 commercial establishments and companies, 12 hospitals, 82 educational institutions and 1,137 archaeological units, in reference to various archaeological buildings. scattered in the area near the port.

Examples of the damage declared by the army include some 550,000 square meters of glass and more than 108,000 interior doors.

The military said the damage survey process “is considered sufficient and there is no need for additional donor surveys,” indicating that any donor who wishes to help should see these results.

Since the explosion, humanitarian aid has poured into Beirut. Many foreign officials visited the country, especially French President Emmanuel Macron.

On August 9, France sponsored an international conference in support of Lebanon, during which participants pledged to contribute more than 250 million euros to help the Lebanese, provided it is provided under the auspices of the United Nations and directly to the Lebanese people, bypassing state institutions accused of corruption.

During his second visit to Lebanon after the explosion, Macron announced his intention to organize a new conference in support of Lebanon in Paris in the second half of October.
