The Lebanese Ministry of Health announced that an agreement is expected to be signed this week to obtain the “Pfizer” vaccine to prevent corona, and the first batch of the vaccine is scheduled to be received 8 weeks later.

Hamad Hassan, Lebanese Minister of Health in the interim government, said: “Despite the severe shortage of foreign exchange, we have overcome this hurdle. The first batch of the vaccine is expected to arrive within eight weeks after signing.”

He added that “Lebanon aims to add 200 new beds in hospital intensive care units within two months, bringing the total to 700.”

He continued: “The protection of all communities residing on Lebanese soil is part of an integrated chain … it must be within the plan.”

He urged United Nations agencies and NGOs to help make more vaccines available in Lebanon, where refugees make up about a quarter of the population.

Lebanon signed an agreement to join the global “Kovacs” plan supported by the World Health Organization to provide vaccines to the poorest countries.
