Berri confirmed that the negotiations will be carried out under the auspices of the United Nations, noting that the United Nations will act as a mediator between Lebanon and Israel to demarcate the land and sea borders, indicating that the Lebanese army will lead the talks.

Berri indicated that the United States will work to create a positive climate for the success of the negotiations that will take place under the auspices of the United Nations.

Berri said the meetings will be held at a United Nations base near the border in southern Lebanon, and the meetings will involve representatives of the United States and the United Nations Special Coordinator for Lebanon.

Berri pointed out that the southern borders will be demarcated based on the positive experience existing since the Understanding of April 1996 and in accordance with Resolution 1701, regarding the maritime borders, continuous meetings will be held under the auspices of the Special Coordinator of the United Nations.

He added that once an agreement is reached, it will be signed by Lebanon, Israel and the United Nations force UNIFIL.

Berri said he asked French President Emmanuel Macron to put pressure on French company “Total” not to postpone offshore gas exploration.

Berri revealed that the agreement was concluded before the US sanctions were imposed on Lebanese ministers, including an aide of his.
