Lebanese Finance Minister Ghazi Wazni said Tuesday that the country will begin negotiations with the International Monetary Fund in the next two days, as Beirut requests the assistance of the Fund to face a serious financial crisis.

My peso confirmed last week that Lebanon hoped to obtain financial support from the International Monetary Fund, which ranged from $ 9 billion to $ 10 billion.

A source close to the government previously told Reuters that the two sides held an introductory meeting on Monday, before detailed talks scheduled for a videoconference, Wednesday morning, with the participation of officials from the Prime Minister’s Office, the Central Bank of the Lebanon and the presidency.

Lebanon defaulted on sovereign debt payments in March. The local currency has lost more than half its value since October, as the dollar restriction was exacerbated.
