Lebanon is preparing for a demonstration calling for an international conference on its problems.

The Lebanese began arriving in Bkerke, northeast of Beirut. In preparation for a demonstration in support of Patriarch Bechara Al-Rai’s proposal to hold an international conference on his country.

The rally will take place in Bkerke, the headquarters of the Maronite Patriarchate, at 3 pm local time, in support of the positions of the Maronite Patriarch, the sponsor and his proposal to hold an international conference on Lebanon.

The protesters will lift the slogans of neutrality and oppose Hezbollah’s weapons, in addition to supporting the sponsor’s initiative to hold the international conference.

Since noon today, cars and buses have started preparing to depart various Lebanese regions for Bkerke, amid a heavy deployment of road security in the areas leading to the headquarters of the Maronite Patriarchate.

Participants were eager to adhere to preventive measures to protect against the “Corona” virus, such as medical masks, and waved Lebanese flags and images of the pastor.

While the loudspeakers in Bkerke broadcast the Patriarch’s statements calling for neutrality and holding an international conference to support Lebanon.

The call for the demonstration was initially limited to civil groups, then some parties joined it, especially the Christian parties that opposed the Hezbollah militia. Like the Lebanese Forces party, the Lebanese Kataeb Party and the Free Patriots, as long as the party flags are not hoisted.

Bkerke had completed preparations to receive the popular crowds on Friday night, and thousands of seats were distributed around the Patriarchate, respecting safe distances.

The sponsor’s speech, which he will deliver today to protesters, is expected to build on the initiative and his intention to hold an international conference, while stressing that his initiative is not directed against any party, but is primarily aimed at saving the Lebanon from the political and economic crises it suffers.

His role, Bkerke media official Walid Ghayad said in a televised interview that “the Patriarchate is everyone’s home, and this measure is not political and should not be political.”

The call for the demonstration comes in support of the sponsor’s recent positions calling for neutrality and the holding of an international conference on Lebanon, due to the difficulty of reaching an internal consensus.

Al-Rai’s initiative received broad Lebanese support and support, with the exception of Hezbollah and its allies. The party’s general secretary, Hassan Nasrallah, called this initiative a “call to war.”

In his speech on Thursday, the sponsor said: “We proposed an international conference that came because we are not able to reach an understanding, nor to establish any dialogue or agreement between us.”

“The international community is responsible for an active and founding member of the United Nations, and he has to extend a helping hand in an official and serious way,” he added.

He also asked “each team to draft a document on our problem in Lebanon to present to the United Nations as a document.”
