The information reported by some media outlets about the “bringing” of samples of the Russian vaccine to Lebanon early next week is not true. The Ministry of Health continues to investigate the available options, “and the main concern is not being the first country to test the vaccine that has not yet been officially registered and about which the World Health Organization does not have enough information in this regard”, according to ministry sources.

Despite this, Health Minister Hamad Hassan confirmed that work is being done to ensure the vaccine “ at a price that takes into account current economic and financial data, ” and noted that the governor of the Banque du Liban to prioritize obtaining the necessary funds to ensure the vaccine. He referred to the communication through the Russian embassy “to follow up on the data and secure the necessary studies to help evaluate the importance of the Russian vaccine.”
Meanwhile, efforts are focused on trying to secure vaccines for the seasonal influenza expected in early autumn, which would fuel the health crisis in the face of the worsening epidemic reality due to the “common” need that influenza generates – with the epidemic- of respirators and some hospital services. As for Hassan’s reference to “studies” related to the “evaluation” of the Russian vaccine, he expresses a delay in the adoption of the vaccine before it is officially registered by the relevant international organizations, and avoid testing it before monitoring. its results in other countries.
It’s worth noting that efforts to secure vaccines, whether for influenza or Covid 19, are based on grants and multi-part soft loans, according to the information.
At the same time, official figures still show that the country is heading towards an epidemic catastrophe, with hundreds of injured that continue to be registered daily. Yesterday, the Ministry announced that 592 injured (590 residents and expatriates), from more than 11,000 laboratory tests, were registered. Thus, the total number of wounded in Lebanon exceeded 25 thousand. While the number of real wounded reached 16 thousand.
The good news is that about three weeks ago, signs of healing began to appear in a large batch of hundreds of injuries. The Ministry’s figures show that 451 people were cured in 24 hours, but this data will not affect much the trajectory of the figures due to the continuous registration of hundreds of daily injuries, which portends the worst, especially in terms of continuing to register injuries in the health sector (seven new cases were announced yesterday, and the total number of injuries among health workers reached 778), while the number of hospital residents continues to increase, reaching 426 people, more than 100 of the which are in critical condition and are in intensive care. These figures brought Lebanon to 74th in the world in terms of registering new infections daily, after it ranked 84th a month ago and 103rd two months ago.
