According to the official Lebanese news agency, the prosecutor, Judge Ghassan Oweidat, issued the decision to release businessman Ziad Taqi al-Din, guaranteeing his residence.

The authorities decided to seize Ziad Taqi al-Din’s passport, to prevent him from traveling outside of Lebanon, according to the same source.

On Friday, Lebanese authorities detained Taqi al-Din, based on an arrest warrant issued by Interpol, for being wanted by French authorities for his involvement in the operations and financing of the campaign of former French President Nicolas Sarkozy, according to the Interpol order.

Sarkozy is accused of receiving money from the late Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi to finance his 2007 election campaign, as well as other suspicions of corruption.

Sarkozy won the French presidency in 2007 and served a term that ended in 2012, while suspicions of corruption and abuse of power have dogged him ever since.
