The Lebanese Internal Security Directorate announced that 13 inmates at Roumieh Central Prison and 9 security personnel were infected with the Coronavirus, indicating that all preventive measures have been taken to limit the spread of the disease.
The Directorate’s Public Relations Division stated in a statement that, “Since the first infection was registered last March, the Corona pandemic in Lebanon, all preventive measures have been taken in all Lebanese prisons, especially in the Roumieh central prison as it contains the largest number of guests. “
He added: “PCR tests were carried out on all the prisoners who presented symptoms similar to those of the Coronavirus (fever, cough, sore throat and loss of the sense of smell), and the total of the tests totaled about 200 examinations, and all they were negative. “
The statement emphasized that “the infected cases were transferred to a building prepared for quarantine in the Central Prison, and was designated in cooperation with the Ministry of Public Health, the International Red Cross and the World Health Organization, as well as departments in various government hospitals to treat and follow up those in need of treatment. “
He noted that “the health situation inside the Roumieh prison is under control, and during the last 24 hours” PCR “tests were carried out on a large number of prisoners and all those who reported or appeared to have any symptoms of the Corona virus.
The management stated that “the families of prisoners whose children were infected with the coronavirus were informed, contacted by telephone and reassured about their situation.”
