French Foreign Minister Jean-Yves Le Drian emphasized that “supporting Lebanon is the result of the strong relationship that unites the two countries at various levels, cultural, social, Francophone and also at the level of personal relationships.” .

He stressed, in an interview with the French “Radio Inter”, that “when Lebanon does not undertake reforms at a time of collapse and at the same time asks for international aid, it is natural that France is at the forefront of the countries that will help it.” And President Emmanuel Macron was the only head of state to visit Beirut the day after the Beirut port explosion.

He continued: “Each side must play its role. The Lebanese must implement reforms and France must emphasize them.” The international community has also valued and supported Macron’s efforts, be it at the United Nations or even the Vatican level.

On the other hand, Le Drian stated that “there is an urgent need to reach an agreement on the trade talks on Brexit”. “The British don’t seem to understand that if you want to negotiate a good deal, then you have to talk about all the issues,” he said.

And he added: “Things are not going well, and there are only two months left. It is urgent that the countdown begins.” We prefer to reach an agreement, but we have to discuss the whole package to avoid not reaching an agreement ”.
