The widow of the late American television host, Larry King, has filed a case in court, contesting a handwritten will, said to inherit the star’s $ 2 million inheritance, to her children.
Sean Southwick King, who was in the process of divorcing the late announcer after his death, claims his “mental abilities were in doubt” when he signed the will.
The document was drawn up in 2019, and in it King expresses his desire to “divide his money equally one hundred percent” among his five children.
Two of his sons died in 2020, while King himself died in January, at the age of 87.
The veteran broadcaster has hosted his popular talk show on CNN for 25 years and has given nearly 50,000 interviews during his six-decade career.
King was married eight times to seven women and has five children, who are listed by name in the disputed document. She married Shawn in 1997 and they have two children.
His daughter Chaya died of lung cancer at the age of 51 in July, while his son Andy died of a heart attack in August at the age of 65.
Southwick King says the late announcer’s son, Larry King Jr., had a redundant influence on his father at the end of his life.
She maintains that the handwritten will contradicts another document signed late in 2015, in which the deceased appointed her executor of the will.
She also claims that she stayed in contact with King despite the divorce proceedings, and they may have reconciled.
Larry King Jr., his son from his second marriage, says his father and Southwick King were not together at the time of his death.
The son applied to be the special administrator of his father’s estate, which is worth two million dollars.
A hearing is scheduled for the Los Angeles County Probate and Probate Court later this month.
