The Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, King Salman bin Abdulaziz, said on Saturday that Saudi Arabia is pleased with the meeting of the leaders of the G20 countries, highlighting that the G20 has demonstrated its strength and ability to join forces.
King Salman said on Twitter, just before the opening of the G20, that the Kingdom hypothetically welcomes this year, given the circumstances of the outbreak of the Corona pandemic, that “our responsibility was and will continue to be to move towards a better future.”
King Salman expressed his confidence that “the Riyadh summit will have important and decisive effects,” noting: “We contributed $ 21 billion to the G20 to address the Corona pandemic … and provide emergency support to countries in development suspending debt payments. “
“Our goal is to seize the opportunities of the 21st century for all … we have taken exceptional steps at the G20 to support our economies,” he said, stressing that “at the G20 we must provide support to developing countries in a coordinated manner.”
He added: “We have to reopen our economies and our borders to facilitate the movement of commerce and people. We are proud of the progress in the search for vaccines and treatments for the coronavirus,” and emphasized that “we are working again to face a global crisis that it has affected people and the economy. “
The Saudi monarch added: “We must create the conditions so that vaccines are available in a fair and affordable way.”
“We have promoted the principle of a circular carbon economy,” he added. “We have supported Riyadh’s initiative on the future of the World Trade Organization.”
Riyadh will host, today and tomorrow, the G20 leaders’ summit, the first of its kind in the Arab world. The summit seeks to achieve an international consensus on the economic issues on the agenda.
King Salman will preside over the work of the fifteenth session of the summits, which will be held virtually, in light of the global conditions related to the Corona epidemic, with the participation of several leaders of countries, and international and regional organizations.
The summit agenda includes a number of topics, the most important of which are energy, climate, digital economy, healthcare and education.
As this year’s G20 Summit is exceptional and virtual, the G20 Presidency Secretariat designed a virtual group image of the group’s country leaders and displayed it on the walls of the Al-Turaif neighborhood in the historic Ad Diriyah, documenting the summit in Saudi Arabia.
The Kingdom hopes to strengthen cooperation with its partner countries to achieve the group’s objectives. As well as generating an international consensus on the economic issues on the agenda, with the aim of achieving stability and prosperity in the global economy.
The holding of the summit will also contribute to raising the concerns of the Middle East and North Africa regions.
