“Killing in broad daylight” … a continuing breach of security in the most prominent areas of the “Turkish administration” in northern Syria

A new assassination operation is underway in the city of Al-Bab, located in the eastern Aleppo countryside, and although it is framed in a general context of unrest and an ongoing breach of security, it also differs in the method of implementation and timing, as the killing is no longer the same at night and in uninhabited areas, to become killing in broad daylight. And in the middle of the most prominent streets and populated neighborhoods.

Al-Bab is considered the most prominent city in the Euphrates Shield area, which is the most prominent area under Turkish administration, since its control at the end of 2018, and in the morning hours of this morning, a young man named Hussein al-Jabali was killed, while two masked gunmen opened fire. He was in the middle of a vital street, killing him instantly.

“Ammar Nassar”, a media activist living in the city of al-Bab, who is a friend of the murdered young man, told the “Al-Hurra” website: “The massacre was carried out during the day in a city like Al -Bab, and in a vital street (…) What courage has the criminal and in what security situation we live ”. .

“Nassar” added that the murdered young man was part of the apparatus of the “National Police” of the factions of the “National Army” and holds the rank of “Lieutenant”, and was murdered on Fatima Al Zahraa Mosque Street, considered one of the the most populated areas of the Aleppo countryside.

Years of control over the Euphrates Shield area, the murders in it have not diminished, and in addition to them, explosions with explosive devices, booby-trapped cars and bicycles have become a daily spectacle, and it is not limited only to the mentioned area, but has retreated to the area of Afrin called the “Olive Branch” area. To the area that Turkey had controlled on the border in northeast Syria, called the “Fountain of Peace.”

The point that continues to be the subject of controversy among the inhabitants of the aforementioned areas is that the killings and bombings take place in the midst of large military and security crowds, on both sides of the Syrian National Army and the Turkish Army, which are considered zones Syrian borders with their lands as a purely security operations area, which opened the door to questions about the reasons behind this security breach? In addition to the question marks, it relates to the reasons behind the lack of “firm” measures to stop such operations, which generally refute the term “safe and stable areas”.

Three reasons

Since the beginning of November, and as monitored by the “Al-Hurra” website, the city of Al-Bab, in the eastern Aleppo countryside, has witnessed three bomb attacks, after which four people were killed, including members of the National Police, whose training and training Turkey had supervised within its territory.

The explosions ranged from bicycles to explosive devices, ISIS adopted one of them, especially the one that targeted members of the “police” while trying to dismantle an explosive device placed in the city of Al-Bab.

The National Army, which controls the area with Turkish support, accuses the sleeper cells of ISIS and others affiliated with the Popular Protection Units (the military command of the Syrian Democratic Forces) and the Syrian regime of being behind the attacks and killings. .

Meanwhile, the Turkish Defense Ministry accuses the “units” of carrying out the attacks, especially in the areas of Ras al-Ain northwest of Hasakah and Tal Abyad, north of Raqqa, which the SDF has even denied. now.

Majed Abdel Nour, a journalist living in the Aleppo camp, identified three reasons behind the continuing state of chaos and security infiltration in the areas of the Turkish administration, in northern Syria, in statements to the “Al-Hurra” website. .

The first reason, according to the journalist, is related to the security institutions that lead the region, which are considered “incompetent” in their work, since they did not receive long-term and reflective security training, explaining: “The individuals who run security institutions followed 15-day courses within Turkey, and then received direct control of the region, in terms of security and militarily. “

The journalist points out that the second reason is related to the multiplicity of “factionalism”, that is, the presence of dozens or even hundreds of military groups, each of which operates separately and without any coordination.

Abdel Nour continues: “There are more than 100 factions, which leads to a great penetration of my nation, especially since each faction blames its counterpart for the responsibility without assuming it.”

Within the “national army” there are three corps, and each corps belongs to it with various factions spread over separate areas of the Aleppo countryside. In addition to them, Turkey has supervised and sponsored the formation of two police services in the last two years: the first is the “national police” and the other is called the “military police”. .

And to a third reason identified by the journalist, he says that the chaos and the security breach are also behind the “ negative role of the courts in the northern countryside of Aleppo ”, which are judicial courts that the factions had also formed after to control the area, under Turkish patronage and coordination.

Abd al-Nur explains: “Many ISIS members are released without any harsh trial (…) there is corruption in some courts, and this is important … Whoever kills and carries out criminal operations has no deterrent before him, so he returns to complete his crime again. .

With the above, the journalist did not deny the story of the “National Army” about the position of the cells belonging to “ISIS”, the Syrian regime and “Qasd”, considering that the areas of the Aleppo countryside are “areas surrounding the opponents “, which makes them vulnerable to daily attacks.

Mobile cells for various limbs.

In the context of the above and within the talk about the state of security chaos that runs through the areas of the Turkish administration in the northern Aleppo countryside, the dissident colonel, Ziad Hajj Obaid, links the current security breach with the multiplicity of parties that control the region, during the last years.

“The liberated north zone witnessed the entry of several controlling parties, first from the regime, then from ISIS, and then from the Popular Protection Units, to the current control of the National Army factions,” said the dissident colonel, resident in Gaziantep, speaking to Al-Hurra.

Haj Obeid continues: “What has preceded has the most prominent role in the state of security chaos that the region is currently experiencing, and alongside it are other nourishing reasons related to the multiplicity of the controlling factions and the absence of an institution of clear security capable of controlling such operations. “

The defected officer refers to cells belonging to various parties behind the killings and bombings, especially cells associated with the Syrian regime, which enter through smuggling from time to time, in addition to cells belonging to ISIS and the Popular Protection Units .

And according to the opinions of the site “Al-Hurra” surveyed by civilians living in the Aleppo countryside, they do not know the “taste of stability” in their daily life, from Al-Bab in the east to Afrin in the extreme northwest.

Murders and bombings have become a daily concern for hundreds of thousands of them, which is why some people unintentionally search their car or even the entrances to their neighborhood every morning, anticipating some explosive device or adhesive that may be placed here or there. .
