The committee meeting, usually held weekly, chaired by President Hassan Rouhani, comes at a time when daily infection and death rates in Iran continue to rise, more than eight months after the outbreak of the epidemic in the country.
According to the website of the Supreme Leader’s office, the meeting was held on Saturday at Imam Khomeini’s Husseiniya in Tehran. Photographs distributed by the office showed Khamenei sitting in his chair, with separate seats to his right and left, with ministers and officials headed by President Rouhani.
And all the assistants put on protective masks.
Khamenei said health officials “must ensure that injured people are identified and treated from the first days,” the website reported.
“Experts have told me that if we do this, the losses will be mitigated” from their current levels, which are considered record levels since the first cases were officially announced last February, he added.
He stressed the need to “do everything necessary” to confront Covid-19 and reduce the number of victims, and called for “harsh penalties to be imposed on all people who commit serious violations of health regulations.
Khamenei noted that the increase in the number of people infected in the fall “is a general situation around the world and is not limited to Iran”, adding that some countries like the United States have dealt with the epidemic with “the worst management” .
He highlighted the need to “seek the best management to overcome the crisis related to life, health, safety and the economy of people.”
Khamenei emphasized that “the principle and priority in decision-making is the health of the people,” and called for “decisive government decisions, persuading public opinion, cooperation between all agencies, as well as the cooperation of the people.” .
According to the latest figures released by authorities on Saturday, the total number of injured in the Islamic Republic reached 562,705 people, of whom 32,320 died.
Health Ministry spokeswoman Sima Sadat Lari reported 5,814 injuries and 335 deaths in the last 24 hours.
On Friday, Larry announced a record number of daily injuries (6134), while the record number of deaths was 337, and it was announced on Wednesday.
Today’s meeting is the first to be held in the presence of the guide and local officials since March. In light of preventive health measures, the guide has participated in the last few months on several occasions and delivered speeches solely through video technology.
Iranian media also published photos of him during religious events, but in the absence of a public presence.
The only public meeting between the guide and a political official in recent months was when Iraqi Prime Minister Mustafa Al-Kazemi welcomed him in Tehran on July 21.
