Azerbaijan’s attack … a new phase
Today, the ongoing war in the Nagorno Karabakh region entered a new twist, after Azerbaijani forces bombed targets within Armenian territories, and Armenia claimed that it reserves the right to respond and attack any military installations within Azerbaijan. .
Azerbaijan’s Defense Ministry said it destroyed missile platforms within Armenian territory, which had been placed in readiness for launch, which is the first time that Azerbaijan has targeted military sites within Armenia and not in Karabakh, since the beginning. of the fighting on September 27.
The Azerbaijani army announced that it destroyed these platforms as a preventive measure to ensure that what it described as the war crime committed in the city of Ganja on 11 this month is not repeated, and to protect civilian areas hit by Armenian missiles.
The Azerbaijani Defense Ministry also announced in a statement that the air defenses destroyed an Armenian drone that was flying over the front line in Fuzuli city in the afternoon.
For his part, Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev reiterated that military operations in the Karabakh region will continue until the region is fully restored. During an interview with a private Turkish channel, Aliyev said that Azerbaijan’s patience is running out and that its aim is to liberate the Karabakh region, as he himself put it.
On the other hand, he said, the Armenian population of Karabakh should not be anxious.
Aliyev also accused Armenia of trying to expand the geography of the fighting and using the ceasefire to buy time. He also described the Armenian attacks on civilians as a terrorist act.
The Azerbaijani president denied the participation of any Turkish component in the confrontations on the ground and considered everything said on this subject to be a lie.
Aliyev warned that if Armenia tries to take control of gas pipelines in Azerbaijan, it will pay a heavy price.
In the same context, Hikmat Hajiyev, assistant to the president of Azerbaijan, accused Armenia of continuing to violate the ceasefire and of attacking civilians.
In a series of tweets on Twitter, Hajiyev announced that one person was killed and 5 others injured during the Armenian bombardment of civilian targets in Azerbaijan.

The sources added that the Azerbaijani bombardment was focused on the northeast and southeast axes of the region, and that the so-called Karabakh forces responded to the sources of the bombardment and worked to repel attacks by the Azeri forces.
Russian position

Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said it is better to deploy Russian military observers to the front line in Karabakh, but the decision is up to Armenia and Azerbaijan.
He stressed that his country does not agree with the Turkish position that there can be a military solution to the Karabakh conflict and that it has informed Baku and Yerevan of the need to hold meetings between the military to establish mechanisms to verify the halt el fire in Karabakh.
The Russian Foreign Minister indicated that the political settlement in Karabakh should take place in parallel with the implementation of the agreements on the ground.
In parallel, the Russian news agency RIA Novosti reported that Russian Defense Minister Sergey Shoigu spoke by phone with his Armenian and Azeri counterparts.
The agency confirmed that Shoigu asked both parties to abide by the ceasefire agreement in Karabakh.
The ceasefire, brokered by Russia, took effect on Saturday, but since then each side has accused the other of committing serious violations and launching attacks against civilians.
The European Union’s foreign policy chief, Josep Borrell, had had telephone conversations with the Russian Foreign Minister about the ongoing dispute between Armenia and Azerbaijan over the Karabakh region.
Borrell voiced the European Union’s appeal to Armenia and Azerbaijan to adhere strictly to the ceasefire and end all hostilities.
The European Union considered civilian casualties on both sides to be unacceptable.
