In the first episode of the “Lebanese Al-Mashhad” program on the Al-Hurra screen, Jumblatt said that there is hope of achieving the goals pursued by the current generation of young people, evidenced by the recent elections that took place in universities “that give hope that there are young Lebanese who want something else. ” .
At the same time, he warned that “the country is on the brink of an abyss”, saying that Lebanon is going to a “precipice”, noting that the political parties rejected the initiative of French President Emmanuel Macron, which paved the way for the helps and negotiations, but “they avoid this matter because their calculations are different.”
The former deputy minister said that those who prevent reform “are those who are taking power. So far, there are no signs of desire for reform.
He added that the reform comes with “the existence of a new government that sees the light with acceptable names, with which the main political powers would be content with certain differences, and that would be free to advance in carrying out reforms and investigating corruption.” .
The Druze leader said there was a “total breakdown of the institutions”, and about the port explosion, he said again that the judicial investigator in Beirut, Fadi Sawan, “made a mistake and should investigate anyone.”
He added that he should have mentioned “the name of the president of the republic in the case,” noting that former presidents of other countries are accountable to their people, such as former French president Nicolas Sarkozy.
The Lebanese judiciary had summoned the head of the provisional government, Hassan Diab, and other ministers affiliated with influential political parties, to an interrogation session as defendants, in the investigation of the bomb attack in the port of Beirut, which occurred on 4 August. .
In the interview, Jumblatt described the era of current President Michel Aoun as “catastrophic”, while saying that his relationship with Saad Hariri was “lukewarm”.
He added on his relationship with Hariri, saying: “I was with him at various points and disagreed in 2008 due to circumstances that prevailed.”
Responding to criticism about “inheriting” the leadership from his son, Taymour, Jumblatt said that whoever takes the leadership has a “different approach” and his son “will not be Walid Jumblatt as I was not Kamal Jumblatt, and Timor remains responsible” .
