Lebanese Druze leader Walid Jumblatt said Wednesday that some do not seem to understand that the French-led effort to pull Lebanon out of the crisis is the last chance to save the country.

“It seems that some did not understand or did not want to understand that the French initiative is the last chance to save Lebanon and prevent its disappearance, as its foreign minister clearly said,” Jumblatt wrote on Twitter.

French President Emmanuel Macron has agreed to extend the deadline to form a new government in Lebanon by several days.

Local media said that Macron had made a series of contacts with political leaders over the past two days and assured them that he did not mind extending the French deadline by a few days.

According to a French diplomat, Macron agreed to extend the deadline to preserve the initiative, and because he was aware of the difficulties it entailed and the complexities of the Lebanese composition.

For her part, the French Foreign Ministry spokeswoman, Agnes von der Molle, said that the priority in Lebanon should be to form a government in a fast moment whose mission is to carry out basic reforms that contribute to the advancement of the country.

He added: “All political forces announced their support for this objective, and it is up to them to translate their promises and commitments into action without delay, and this is the responsibility of the political forces, as indicated by the French president during his visit to Lebanon two weeks ago, and we continue to remind the Lebanese authorities of that. “

In a related context, Lebanese sources reported that Deputy Muhammad Raad, head of the “Hezbollah” parliamentary bloc, informed the president of the republic that the Shiite duo, the Amal Movement and Hezbollah, adhere to the money portfolio and name their ministers in government.

The “LBCI” channel reported that “the Speaker of Parliament, Nabih Berri, established a rule according to which the Ministry of Finance belongs to the Shiites, and they are called a minister, with flexibility to consult with Prime Minister-designate Mustafa Adeeb.”

The information indicated that the consultations between the Free Patriotic Movement and the dualist Shiite movement continued in the last hours at the highest levels regarding the consultations to form a government.

Representative Hagop Pakradounian, head of the Armenian parliamentary bloc “Tashnak” affiliated with the “Lebanon First” bloc led by Gebran Bassil, told the President of the Republic during his meeting today: “We are in favor of the integral rotation and against the importation of foreign ministers, and as deputies they give confidence to the government, we must participate in the appointment of ministers and get to know them ”.
