Beirut – Three militants loyal to Iran and Hezbollah were killed in an Israeli bombardment that targeted the southern Syrian governorate of Quneitra overnight Tuesday, according to the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights.

The director of the Syrian Observatory, Rami Abdul Rahman, said that “the three dead belonged to the Syrian Resistance Group for the Liberation of the Golan,” which was established by the Iranian-backed Lebanese group Hezbollah more than six years ago on the Golan Heights. and headed by the party’s leader, Samir Kuntar, before his death in an Israeli bombing near Damascus in late 2015.

Abdul-Rahman explained that among the three officers there is a Syrian, while the nationality of the other two dead is unknown.

The official Syrian news agency (SANA) said after midnight that “at midnight the Israeli enemy launched a missile attack on a school in the northern countryside of Quneitra,” causing damage.

Abdul Rahman, for his part, said that members of the fighting group “were present at night in one of the buildings belonging to the school”, after it was believed at night that the bombing was aimed at the headquarters of “Iranian militias. “.

In recent years, Israel has stepped up its rate of shelling in Syria, targeting primarily Syrian army sites, Iranian targets and Hezbollah.

Israel rarely confirms the implementation of these attacks, but will repeat that it will continue to oppose what it describes as Iran’s attempts to establish its military presence in Syria and send advanced weapons to Hezbollah.

Tel Aviv and Washington accuse Iran of transferring weapons to Hezbollah in Syria, and the party has transferred them to Lebanon, where it has repeatedly boasted that it has an advanced missile arsenal capable of striking deep within Israel.

With the lifting of the arms embargo on Iran, which has been in effect since 2007, Tehran is expected to accelerate the pace of arming Hezbollah, after its funding for its weapons in the region declined due to US sanctions.

For years, the Syrian arena was a conduit for Iranian weapons to Hezbollah, while Iran seeks to strengthen its military influence through its proxies in the region.

Since 2011, Syria has been experiencing a bloody conflict that has killed more than 380,000 people, caused massive destruction of infrastructure and productive sectors, and caused the displacement and displacement of millions of people within and outside the country.
