Iranian media quoted an Iranian investigator as saying on Saturday, March 13, that Israel is likely behind the attack that took place in the Mediterranean last week that damaged an Iranian container ship.
Israeli officials did not comment on Friday, March 12, when asked if Israel had a role in the incident that took place on Wednesday.
Iran said on Friday that the container ship Shahrekord was hit by an explosive charge that started a small fire, but no one was injured in the back.
Two maritime security sources said initial indications indicated that the ship was deliberately attacked by an unknown source.
The semi-official Noor news agency quoted an anonymous member of the Iranian team investigating the incident as saying: “Given the geographical location and the way the ship was attacked, one of the great possibilities is that this terrorist operation was carried out by the Zionist regime (Israel) “.
On Saturday, March 13, Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Saeed Khatibzadeh said that reports confirmed the occurrence of a sabotage attack “in clear violation of international law and the procedures to identify the perpetrators of this act of sabotage in our agenda. “
On Friday, the Iranian shipping company said it would take legal action to identify the perpetrators of the attack, which it described as terrorism and maritime piracy.
The incident came two weeks after an Israeli ship was bombed in the Gulf of Oman. It was not immediately clear why, but a US defense official said the shelling had punched holes in the ship’s hull from both sides. Israel accused Iran of being behind the attack, which Tehran denied.
