Gilad Ardan, Israel’s ambassador to the United Nations, called on the Security Council to act immediately against the Lebanese Hezbollah military reinforcements and to continue its activities in southern Lebanon.
Erdan’s claim came in an official letter he sent to the UN Security Council on Tuesday, immediately after the quarterly report recently issued by United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres, which dealt with the scope of the implementation of Resolution 1701 of the UN Security Council, which was the resolution that the Council issued during the war in Lebanon. The second was in 2006, with the aim of stopping the war, and among the contents of the resolution was “the dismantling of the weapons of all the armed groups in Lebanon,” according to the decision of the Lebanese government on July 27, 2006. that there should be no arms and no authority in Lebanon except the Lebanese government.
The Israeli Jerusalem Post indicated in a report published Wednesday that Guterres’ report reviewed Hezbollah’s serious violations of the UN resolution, as the report confirmed that the party is developing its military reinforcements in southern Lebanon, which is The same has been confirmed by the commanders of the Israeli army on many occasions.
Guterres called on the Lebanese government, in his report, to allow the United Nations forces present in Lebanon within the “UNIFIL” mission full access to all the sites they wish to visit in southern Lebanon, including the tunnels dug by Hezbollah and discovered by the Israeli army two years ago.
The Israeli ambassador’s speech not only confirmed that Hezbollah had not only dismantled its weapons, but that “Hezbollah is using civilians as” human shields “to protect its arsenal from military infrastructure and missiles, numbering some 130,000 missiles.
Ardan noted that “Hezbollah systematically prevents UNIFIL from carrying out its tasks, by impeding its freedom of movement, in an effort to conceal the party’s activities.”
In his speech, which was broadcast to all member states of the Security Council, Erdan attached a map drawn up by the Israeli army, which includes the location of the Hezbollah tunnels in southern Lebanon, which were recently discovered, as well as the sites that were used to launch attacks against Israel, and the organization’s reconnaissance and surveillance sites. “Verde sin Fronteras” is a non-governmental organization that is a front for Hezbollah activities in the border area with Israel, with the aim of gathering intelligence information on Israeli soldiers.
Israel’s ambassador to the United Nations asked the Security Council to immediately declare Hezbollah a “terrorist organization”.
This is not the first time that Erdan has tried to persuade the Security Council to adopt different policies towards Hezbollah and the Lebanese government. Last August, Erdan filed a complaint with the Security Council following the attack carried out by Hezbollah against Israeli soldiers near the Lebanese border, calling for immediate action against the Lebanese government. And a review of the tasks of UNIFIL international forces, considering that the attack took place in an area between two UNIFIL sites, and Erdan reiterated his demand last October, in a letter to the Security Council, asking Council member states to reconsider their policies toward Hezbollah.
