The UAE Football League announced on Tuesday the signing of a “cooperation agreement” with the “Israeli League”, with the aim of what it described as the exchange of experiences and the organization of joint matches between UAE clubs and the Zionist entity. . The football cooperation agreement will be the first of its kind between an Arab country and the Zionist entity, following the signing of an agreement to normalize relations between the UAE and the occupation entity in mid-August.

The first reflection of the “normalization of relations on the sports side” was that the Emirati club Al-Nasr signed a contract with the player Zia Sabaa, who has the passport of the Zionist entity, coming from Gwangju Evergrande of China, to become the first “Israeli” player to play in the UAE League.
The UAE League confirmed in a statement that the terms of the cooperation agreement that was approved through video communication technology “includes the establishment of joint workshops in order to discuss ways of developing the marketing and promotional side of the tournaments, in addition to keep abreast of everything related to sports technology and football development, as well as the development of technical work in the Football Sector ». “The agreement will contribute to improve the opportunities for peace and to confirm the ties of cooperation and friendship for the interests of football in the two countries, and football has always been the most important and fastest way of rapprochement between peoples,” said the president. of the Emirates League, Abdullah Al-Junaibi. He continued: “Our goal is to organize joint events between the two countries and confirm the cooperation in a way that improves the economic, commercial and sports aspect.” For his part, the “president of the Zionist Union” Erez Khilfoun welcomed the agreement, and also hoped to sign agreements with other Arab countries.
Shortly after the deal was announced, the Israeli club Maccabi Haifa confirmed that it had received an invitation from the UAE club Al Ain to play a friendly match in Abu Dhabi, which would be called the “peace match”, whose date would be set later.

Human rights organizations claim settlement clubs target Palestinians and their lands

The agreement between the UAE and the Zionist entity comes at a time when the Zionist occupation authorities continue to pressure Palestinian sports clubs. Since 2016, many human rights organizations, including Human Rights Watch, have claimed that the occupation authorities are using the occupied Palestinian territories by force, so that settlers can play sports at the expense of the Palestinians. The occupation is also demolishing Palestinian playgrounds to build settlements. Earlier, “Human Rights Watch” accused the International Football Association (FIFA) of sponsoring matches that take place in settlements, which are mainly occupied land. And human rights organizations called on more than one occasion to force Zionist clubs to leave Palestinian lands and not attack their stadiums and sports activities. The organization believes that “FIFA distorts the values and concepts of the beautiful game of football by allowing Israel to hold its matches on stolen land,” according to statements issued in 2016. Human rights organizations also consider that FIFA’s support for the Zionist clubs take on economic forms also at the expense of Palestinians. Among the practices carried out by the occupation is preventing Palestinian athletes from participating abroad by restricting their movement, as well as delaying sports missions preparing to participate in external sporting events …
The Palestinian Football Association launched a campaign in May 2015 to suspend the Israeli Federation’s membership in FIFA, due to restrictions imposed by the occupation army on Palestinian athletes and due to the inclusion of settler teams in matches. soccer. However, FIFA always supports settlements at the expense of Palestinian clubs. At a session held in India about 3 years ago, FIFA announced its final position on the issue of settlement clubs, which is its position on neutrality and refused to impose sanctions on Zionist clubs that play with the support of the Federation of Occupation Entities despite its violation of international law. With this decision, FIFA disregarded three recommendations made by an international committee that had worked for more than two years on the file, and at the time, FIFA demanded that clubs playing in the Palestinian territories occupied in 1967 be penalized for considering that this matter is contrary to international law.
The president of the Swiss International Football Federation, Gianni Infantino, attributed FIFA’s decision at the time to the fact that the issue was “exceptionally complex”, and considered that “any interference in the status quo in these territories, in all the region, as far as football is concerned, will have an exacerbated effect “of the problem. He said: “This issue will not be subject to any further discussion until the current / legal framework changes.”
So the new agreement between the Zionist entity and the United Arab Emirates comes at a time when the screws are still being tightened on the Palestinians also from the sports portal, and the clubs of the Zionist entity are expected to benefit from huge sums. of money as a result of joint matches, provided that they invest part of them in the construction of sports facilities and development of existing ones, which were and will be built. On the lands of the Palestinians that were stolen from them.
