The White House said Friday that the United States did not intend to take any further action in response to Iranian pressure before possible talks with him and major powers to return to the deal.
However, the Islamic Republic of Iran News Agency quoted government spokesman Ali Rabiei as saying: “We are confident that the diplomatic initiatives will produce a positive result despite diplomatic disputes, which are a natural prelude to the return of the parties to their obligations, including lifting all sanctions in the near future. “
Under the deal with the major powers, Iran agreed to impose restrictions on its nuclear program in exchange for the lifting of international sanctions. Washington reimposed the sanctions after Trump withdrew from the deal in 2018, and Iran responded by not adhering to some of the terms of the deal.
Iran’s envoy to the International Atomic Energy Agency Kazem Gharibabadi said in a tweet that the agency’s director general, Rafael Grossi, arrived in Tehran on Saturday for a scheduled visit. The international official will discuss ways to work with Iran in light of the possibility of reducing cooperation.
Rabiei said the law “does not contradict our commitment” to the agreement and does not constitute “an obstacle to our proper response to US measures.”
